Made in Alberta: Feel Good About Supporting Local

The movement to support local businesses has – undoubtedly – been a bright spot of the Covid-19 pandemic. As a small, Alberta-owned business, people’s desire to support local over the past year-and-a-half has warmed our hearts here at Sweet Market Esso. This movement has prompted us to expand our locally-made offerings, and today’s blog post shines a well-deserved spotlight on five products available in our convenience store that are made right here in beautiful Alberta!

When you’re driving through Gasoline Alley, you can feel good stopping at Sweet Market to purchase locally made treats. We now carry a variety of made-in-Alberta products like cannolis from Sweet Capone’s, freeze-dried candy from The Space Pantry, chocolate covered licorice from Chocolicious, vegan and gluten free snacks from Hear Me Raw, and small batch fudge from Sugar Rush Specialty Fudge.

Yum!

1. Sweet Capone’s: Red Deer and Lacombe, AB

“We’ve taken something old, and made it new.  A cherished family recipe with a fresh new twist.  Once enjoyed by just our family, we took a chance and decided to share our cannoli with the world.  Turns out that when you step outside of your box, incredible things can happen. . . A Sweet Capone’s cannoli is truly an experience all it’s own.  With over 18 seasonal varieties, we are constantly inspired by new flavour combinations!”

2. The Space Pantry: Airdrie, AB

“At The Space Pantry we love experimenting with all types of candy. We take some of the most popular candies and freeze dried them. The result? The texture completely changes and those once hard-to-chew candies are now light, airy, crunchy, melt-in-your-mouth treats (packing some extreme flavour).”

3.Chocolicious, Sherwood Park, AB

“We started Chocolicious because . . . well . . . We have an obsession with candy! Not just any candy! Those who know us will tell you . . . our ingredients are of the highest quality, prepared in a spotless environment, presented in a fun and appealing way, with unique new products introduced regularly.”

4. Hear Me Raw: Canmore, AB

“Hear Me ‘Raw’ is a high vibe raw food company that came to life while I was in Costa Rica. I created these delicious superfood infused treats with intention and love.”

5. Sugar Rush Specialty Fudge: Calgary, AB

“Bite sized pieces of the creamiest fudge you have ever tasted. Old fashioned small batch fudge can’t be beat and we always carry over 40 flavors to markets in and around Calgary!”
